After a personal record-breaking victory against the Coventry Jets, the Steelers will be looking for another win in as many weeks. This weekend will see us face-off against across town foes, the Birmingham Bulls. Last year we took both wins against the Bulls securing bragging rights the whole year round, and this season we will be looking to do the same.
Last weekends game saw a rampant Steelers side put up a total of 10 scores on the day. With several new pieces in the Steelers backfield and receiver core, QB Callum Davidson was able orchestrate six of our seven offensive scores, with replacement QB Joe Reynolds coming on in the final quarter to make it seven. On the other side of the ball, the defence was very successful in creating ‘three and outs’ on almost every drive and picked up two scores of their own. By no means least, HC Ross Barrows’ special teams got themselves a score as well when Jake Hill chased down a botched snap.
With a team whose average age is just over 24 years old, it was brilliant to see so many young players achieve success in the game and with very few penalties as well. This weekend we expect to see more of the same from all sides of the balls now that the first game jitters are out of the way.
The Birmingham Bulls hold the title of the ‘oldest running American Football club’ in the country, so it’s no surprise that they are a team full of history that will be looking to get back to winning ways.
We spoke to HC Ross Barrow to get his view on this weekend’s upcoming fixture: “After last weekends emphatic victory we will be looking to continue on the same footing where we left off. It was awesome to see every unit coming together and working efficiently from the very first minute. The Bulls haven’t yet played a fixture this season, so it will be interesting to see what they’ve been working on in pre-season”.
The fixture will be held at Tipton Sports Academy, Wednesbury Oak Road, DY4 0BS. Gates open around 13:30 with Kick Off at 14:30. If you missed last weekends blowout game, then be sure not to miss this one.
