The club are delighted to announce the recruitment of veteran quarterback Tristan Varney to the Steelers’ Adult Programme. This news comes only days after the appointment of Maxwell Petitjean as Adult Head Coach http://bit.ly/SteelerHC.
Tristan is yet another big name the club have been able to attract this off-season. This recruitment sees us move one step closer to achieving our goals for the 2018 season.
He will be joining the team in a playing capacity and fighting against GB quarterback Callum Davidson for the starting spot.
For those that know little of Tristan, he’s enjoyed an illustrious career so far having won two BUCS national championship with the University of Birmingham Lions in 2009 and 2010. He’s represented the Great Britain Adult Team (2009-2013) at the European Championship in 2010 and has also represent GB at Student level too.
More recently Tristan has been dominating the field of flag football with the Lions’ flag team and has been coaching at various levels.
Here’s what Tristan had to say on joining the Steelers: “Having been away from contact football for a little while now, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for me.
“What really attracted me to the Steelers was the appointment of Maxwell. After speaking with him about his plans for 2018, it was clear that the Steelers are the right for me. I am really looking forward to putting my pads back on and getting out there with the rest of the team.”
